Wasteland Aesthetics.
In the vast emptiness of the desert, there exist charged spaces of energy and creativity. Stay in the desert long enough, and you'll find the absolute. The number zero is holy.
It is fitting that there is no self-evident approach, no clear path, to the topic of the desert. A natural wilderness or a barren wasteland; an ecology rich in life and surprisingly fragile; a geographical extremity or existential terrain; as sacred, or accursed, or an object of sheer aesthetic exultation.
These photographic works move freely between these and other conceptions of the desert, guided throughout by a set of philosophical texts, in which the desert is figured principally as a speculative topology, a place of thought and creativity. It has been noted that there is a link between the desert and modern aesthetics. The desert measurably offers immeasurable space.
